Purpose Of Position
The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services necessary for the company’s technical and engineering needs. This role supports departments such as R&D, Design, Infrastructure, Facilities, and Production . The Technical Buyer ensures that procurement activities align with the company’s strategic and operational goals while meeting all requirements, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
What You Will Be Doing
- Scope of work and actions are collaboratively managed with Engineering and Operations.
- Responsibility for creating/monitoring purchase orders on a daily basis, for R&D, Capital Expenditures, and Operational Expenditures.
- Ensures that all processes are conducted according to approved procedures.
- Identify and source suppliers for technical materials, components, and services required by R&D, Engineering, and Production teams.
- Works closely with various functions such as R&D, Design, Fluids, Electrical, Testing, and Production to resolve issues for current sourced solutions.
- Supports supply agreement negotiations and resolves issues on pricing and sourcing with management.
- Seeks out cost reduction through negotiation, competitive bidding, and market knowledge.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of suppliers and their capabilities including key personnel, product details, production processes, order handling, internal systems, and shipping capabilities
- Maintains accurate purchasing data in the Procurement, Inventory, and accounting system and purchases materials in the most economical size, composition, quality, quantity, and combination
- Expedites materials as required and handles rejections or other problems on purchased materials
- Monitors supplier performance metrics
- Identifies and implements process efficiencies and process improvements for the organization
- Reviews open order reports and other indicators to ensure a timely delivery of indirect goods and services
- Notifies internal stakeholders whenever an existing shipment commitment is in jeopardy, and recommends alternatives on how the requested demand could be satisfied
- Creates scorecards for certain suppliers and communicates the scorecard to supplier
- Manages the tactical business relationship between the supplier and Firehawk, and ensures that communications are clear and appropriate
- Investigates and drives corrective actions to receiving and accounting problems related to purchase orders
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, And Qualifications
- BS/BSE/BA level degree in business, engineering, materials science, logistics, or related discipline or equivalent experience
- 3+ years Experience in a purchasing, sourcing, technical role in the R&D or Engineering space, or relevant job experience.
- 3+ years Experience across a broad range of commodities is preferred. Commodities include: electronics, chemicals, tooling, consumables, and manufacturing to print.
- 3+ years Experience in a DOD regulated environment is a plus.
- 3+ years Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven negotiation skills
- Experienced in using Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and Word.
