Firehawk Aerospace is a propulsion-focused aerospace and defense company based in the Dallas, TX area. Firehawk is seeking a Flight/Test Systems Engineer III, whose primary responsibilities center around the development of avionics and control systems for robust flight platforms. This includes specification definition, design, development, verification, validation, implementation, and continued support of small rocket vehicle systems. This position involves travel, and the successful candidate may be required to travel up to 20% of the time for mission support.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop instrumentation, control, and telemetry systems for flight demonstrator vehicles
- Establish, document, and maintain streamlined mission-critical software
- Coordinate with responsible parties to define system, test, and data requirements, and establish criteria for verification
- Contribute to the development of test/flight readiness, and data reviews
- Fulfill discipline-specific console operation for test and flight missions
- Ensure safe and effective conduct of ground and flight test missions, and help identify potential safety or operational concerns
- Work closely with technicians and responsible engineers to ensure products meet requirements and schedules are kept
- Collaborate with responsible parties to resolve technical issues
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical foundation
- Experience in data acquisition, control systems, and instrumentation
- Experience with high power amateur or university-level rocketry
- Ability to systematically troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, OneNote)
- Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment
- Ability to effectively leverage COTS and consumer-grade hardware for novel applications
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical foundation
- Understanding of National Instruments data acquisition systems and development environments
- Experience with sounding rocket or ground-launched missile systems
- Proficiency in MATLAB for the purpose of data post-processing and analysis
- Experience as a flight test engineer or control room engineer on a test program
- Experience with launch vehicle or aircraft requirement verification
- Active or Previous Security Clearance
